TAP volunteers heated up the kitchen as we partnered with Refugee and Immigrant Services of Catholic Charities. Alongside several “new arrivals” from Burma, Kenya, Somalia, Eritrea, and Iraq, we cooked an enormous meal of international dishes for the approximately 100 guests at USM’s New Mainer’s Day. RIS does phenomenal work assisting people seeking a new life in Maine to become productive, independent members of the community, and New Mainers’ Day was an event designed to welcome new arrivals with a day of celebration and community. We had a great time making connections, sharing stories, and creating some international delights for dinner!
